Shelby Area Chamber of Commerce
Shelby lies north of Great Falls on the great north-central plains of Montana. This is prime wheat growing country, but large cattle and sheep ranches also predominate. With the discovery of the Kevin-Sunburst oil field in 1922, Shelby became the center of a rich oil producing area. Shelby is historically significant for the Dempsey-Gibbons World Championship prizefight held there on July 4, 1923.
