Choteau is nestled into the Rocky Mountain Front, a wall of rugged mountains rising up abruptly from vistas of rolling, grassy hills and flat plains. Known for its dinosaur digs and dramatic landscapes, Choteau lies within Montana’s “Golden Triangle,” the largest grain producing region in the state. Vast fields of wheat and barley dominate the landscape. Choteau is home to the Old Trail Museum, featuring dinosaur fossils, Indian artifacts, and paleontology programs. A picturesque courthouse is encircled by the town’s main street.
