It’s the time of year when scammers come out of the woodwork, and we’ve received quite a few calls about scams targeted at crews and suppliers here in Montana.
These consist mostly of the fake cashier’s check scam, where they want to send you a check in pre-payment, and you send them the difference back, buy something for them, turn their check into i-tunes cards, buy bitcoin, etc.
Real companies have references we can track, banks with phone numbers, and with very few exceptions, don’t send out stilted and formally worded e-mails trying to hire you.
If you think you are a target of a scam, please let us know. You can take any check you receive to a bank to have it verified for the magnetic microprinting, routing numbers and bank information through their fraud network.
