The True/False Film Fest highlights innovative work with a cinematic scope, creative takes on contemporary currents, and most of all work that provokes dialogue about its subject and the documentary form itself. For four days, downtown Columbia, Missouri is transformed into a small-town Midwestern shangri-la of nonfiction film. From parties and panels to nonstop screenings and special events, an electric atmosphere is maintained throughout. Some highlights from the past year include Lixin Fan’s LAST TRAIN HOME playing to a capacity crowd at the 1200 seat Missouri Theatre (with Fan in attendance); Adam Curtis (POWER OF NIGHTMARES) bringing his stunning and seldom seen IT FELT LIKE A KISS; and films ranging from the blockbuster (Soderbergh’s AND EVERYTHING IS GOING FINE, RESTREPO), to undiscovered gems (Robert Green’s KATI WITH AN I). T/F began as a tribute to nonfiction film and those working in this burgeoning and essential field, and continues to honor this spirit. As Alex Gibney said, “[T/F] is how it should be, and rarely is”. Click here for more information.
