Excerpt from book about Louise:
They called her Perma Red.

It meant all the bad names polite company could hiss, a name twisted like something hung on a tree. It could mean she was an Indian or not an Indian. It could mean she came from Perma and could never change her life.

It is a name that had a history and a power. She took it back.

She had something moving in her beautiful as the devils magic. Hazel eyes the color of leaves at the point of turning. Thick hair past her shoulders brown and somehow red – a copper ladle dipped in smooth honey. Someone once said that beauty like that shouldn’t be hidden in such dark places.
