Clark Canyon Reservoir

Recreation on Clark Canyon Reservoir and Barrett's Diversion Dam, located on the Beaverhead River south of Dillon, Montana, is managed by the Bureau of Reclamation. Clark Canyon Reservoir is the site of Camp Fortunate, one of the more significant spots along the Lewis and Clark Trail. It was at Camp Fortunate that the Lewis and Clark expedition met the Limhi Shoshoni Tribe, and cached their canoes and a stash of supplies for the return trip. Sacagawea was reunited with her people here. This reservoir, with 4,935 surface acres and 17 miles of shoreline, offers good fishing for rainbow and brown trout. Concrete boat ramps, picnic shelters, marina.

Ruby Reservoir

The Ruby Reservoir in southwestern Montana is about 12 miles west of Virginia City. The reservoir was developed to supply irrigation to ranches and is therefore subject to large fluctuations in depth. Water should be carried in. There is a barely developed campground and there is good fishing for trout when water level permits. Remote location receives only moderate use. Peaceful; willows along shoreline; remainder of site is treeless. There is a boat access to the reservoir, which is stocked with trout. Click here for more photos.
