Flathead Lake
Flathead Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi in the lower 48 states, with over 200 square miles of water and 185 miles of shoreline. The southern half of Flathead Lake is within the boundary of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Flathead Reservation. Recreation on and around the lake includes: sailing, power boating, waterskiing, swimming, fishing, picnicking, and camping. In the summer, roadside stands along the east shore offer a variety of locally grown cherries, apples, plums, and other fruits. There are numerous motels and rental cabins in addition to public campgrounds scattered all around the shoreline. The major population centers around the lake are Kalispell, Bigfork, and Polson, all of which offer a complete variety of groceries, supplies, and information. Click here for more photos.

McGregor Lake
McGregor Lake is host to a prime Mackinaw trout population and offers excellent opportunities for a trophy-size catch. Swimming and boating may also be enjoyed at McGregor Lake. Swan Lake
Swan Lake is located in the Flathead National Forest in northwest Montana. It is about 20 miles long and a mile wide at the north end of the Swan Valley. The lake is a popular fishing and resort area. Swan Lake is popular among fishermen for its northern pike fishery, kokanee salmon and rainbow trout. The Clearwater River flows south through a 'chain of lakes' to the Blackfoot River near the Blackfoot Clearwater Game Range where several hundred head of elk and deer winter. Montana Highway 83 leads through this region linking several rural communities including Swan Lake, Condon & Seeley Lake. Scenic wildlife viewing areas can be accessed along Highway 83. Tally Lake
Tally Lake is beautiful to behold. It resembles a Scandinavian fjord with its towering cliffs and rugged country around 3 sides of the lake. At nearly 500 feet deep, it is the deepest lake in Montana. Most of the lake is deep, cold and rather unproductive for fishing. There are some very large lake trout hanging out in Tally Lake, but they are notoriously difficult to find. On the north side of the lake, Logan Creek enters and exits the lake. Thompson Lakes
The Thompson Chain of Lakes includes shoreline access to 18 lakes including McGregor Lake, Little McGregor Lake, Lower Thompson Lake, Middle Thompson Lake, Upper Thompson Lake, Horseshoe Lake, and Loon Lake. There are 83 primitive campsites and 8 group campsites, all of which require a fee for overnight camping. Developed, concrete boat ramps are located at Boisverts on McGregor Lake, the Peninsula on Lower Thompson Lake, Upper Thompson Lake, Horseshoe Lake and Loon Lake. Latrines are available throughout the site. Maps are available on site. Roads are primitive and not recommended for motor homes and large trailers. However, the 22 developed campsites at Logan State Park, located on Middle Thompson Lake are suitable for large camping units.



Whitefish Lake
Whitefish Lake, Montana is located in the northwest part of the state. A large clear lake with over 3,315 acres, a shore line of 16.3 miles and an elevation of 2988 feet. There is a public boat ramp and campground just past the Whitefish golf course. The city has a nice beach recently updated with a new boat ramp. Whitefish has many lovely homes with access to the lake for summer fun. The town of Whitefish, the home of over 6,000 people live in the city limits.The Whitefish area has the lake and Big Mountain, a great ski area, so you can have fun in all seasons.
