Highway 49 runs from Jct US 89 north of Kiowa to East Glacier Park. Highways 49 used to connect to US 89 at Kiowa. Old MT 49 used to run from Browning to Glacier Park (now US 2). Kiowa comes from the Blackfeet word for bear, Kya-yo. The Kiowa Highway runs parallel along the eastern border of Glacier National Park lies highway 49. For twelve breathtaking miles, this road winds and wanders through the hills presenting views of snow capped mountain peaks, pristene lakes, and lush forests.
