| With a population of just under 100,000 people, Billings is the largest city in Montana. Founded
in 1882, this city began as a railhead for the Northern Pacific Railroad. Eventually, the Chicago, Burlington, and
Quincy railroads arrived and boosted the economy even further. Today, the city is a major shipping center for
cattle and other agricultural products. Billings features broad, treelined avenues and Montana's tallest buildings.
Distinctive rock formations, known as the Rimrocks, border the city to the north; while the Yellowstone river
cuts right through the city on its journey east. |
